MW: Oil and gas stocks edge lower along with crude

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- More declines dogged the energy sector early Friday, with a 3% drop in Marathon Oil MRO -0.12% weighing on a group that was among the hardest hit in the prior trading day's market freefall. The NYSE Arca Oil Index XX:XOI +0.07% lost less than 1% to 1,091 points, while the NYSE Arca Natural Gas Index XX:XNG -0.13% and the Philadelphia Oil Service Sector Index OSX -7.00% suffered similar losses. Crude-oil futures CL1U -1.69% shed $1.42, or 1.7%, to $80.96 a barrel in electronic trading.
