MC:Rupee erases early losses; euro, local shares aid
The rupee gave up early losses and was largely steady in afternoon trades on Tuesday as the euro gained against the dollar and local shares turned positive.
* At 1:48 p.m., the partially convertible rupee was at 45.99/46.00 per dollar, compared with its previous close of 45.985/995 on Monday. It has moved in a band of 45.96-46.17 so far in the day.
* The euro jumped 1% on the day against the Swiss franc on Tuesday as traders cited buying by a US investment bank, which also boosted the single currency against the dollar.
* The euro was at USD 1.4195, higher than USD 1.4122 when the rupee closed on Monday, while the index of the dollar against six major currencies was at 75.091 points, down from 75.056.
* India's main 30-share BSE index reversed losses and was up 0.41% at 16,781.94 points. The shares had fallen as much as 1.3% earlier in the day on euro zone debt worries.
