MW: Obama urges swift passage of his jobs plan

By Greg Robb
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) - President Barack Obama kept up the pressure on Congress to swiftly pass his $450 billion jobs package, calling it one positive step in a world economy that is full of uncertainty. "In Europe and the Middle East, some events may be beyond our control, but this is something we can control," Obama said in a brief speech in the Rose Garden, surrounded by veterans, law enforcement officials, and state workers. The measure includes tax cuts for workers and small business, would extend emergency unemployment insurance and boost spending for roads and bridge repair. Obama said only politics would derail the package that includes measures previously supported by both parties. "The next election is 14 months away and the American people don't have the luxury of waiting 14 months for Congress to take action," Obama said.
