South Africa's rand extended its losses against the dollar to nearly two percent on Tuesday, making it the session's second worst performer of 20 emerging market currencies tracked by Reuters.
The rand hit a session low of 7.9925 to the dollar and was last trading at 7.9641 at 0853 GMT from Monday's close of 7.85.
Government bonds followed suit, with the yield on the 2015 bond up seven basis points to 6.69 percent and that on the 2026 note up 10.5 basis points to 8.375 percent.
