CB: Gas prices reach $4 a gallon in Capital Region
CAPITAL REGION -- If the price shock hasn't hit you yet, it will.
The CBS6 gas gauge on Friday shows the average cost of a gallon of regular is $3.93, but that is the average.
We've found some stations that have already crossed the four dollar mark.
As those prices continue to climb, New York Senator Chuck Schumer says it's time to take a closer look at what's behind it.
"Why is it when the price is so high and people are paying through the nose for gasoline, are refineries closing down?" he asks. "Is there any collusion? Is there any desire to limit the supply? It's hard to believe a refinery is losing money when gas is approaching four dollars a gallon."
Schumer points out he first called on the Federal Trade Commission to look into possible collusion nine months ago. He's also repeating his call on Saudi Arabia to pump out more oil.
