MW: S&P 500 to begin session with 1,400 within reach

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- The U.S. stock market on Wednesday could breach another psychological milestone, with the S&P 500 SPX +0.01% poised to start the session within striking range of 1,400, a level not hit in more than three years. The S&P 500 last hit 1,400.06 intraday on June 6, 2008, the 64th anniversary of D-day, notes Howard Silverblatt, senior index analyst at Standard & Poor's. On Tuesday, stocks rallied after economic data had retail sales rising and J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. JPM -0.25% hiked its dividend. The Dow DJIA +0.14% toppled 13,000 to close at its highest level since Dec. 31, 2007, while the Nasdaq Composite COMP +0.10% on Tuesday finished above 3,000 for the first time in 11 years.
