BLBG:Ruble Declines Versus Dollar, Steady Against Currency Basket
The ruble weakened against the dollar and was little changed against the euro, leaving it steady versus Bank Rossii’s currency basket.
The Russian currency depreciated 0.2 percent to 29.4101 per dollar by 2:10 p.m. in Moscow. The ruble slid less than 0.1 percent to 38.3908 against the euro, leaving it 0.1 percent weaker versus the central bank’s euro-dollar basket to 33.4533.
Russia’s ruble bonds due April 2021 were little changed, leaving the yield one basis point higher at 7.77 percent. The yield on the country’s sovereign dollar bonds maturing in 2020 was unchanged at 3.946 percent, five basis points above a record low on March 12.
Bank Rossii manages the ruble within a so-called “floating corridor” against a basket of about 55 percent dollars and 45 percent euros to limit swings that erode exporters’ competitiveness. Price of Urals crude, Russia’s main export blend, rose 0.2 percent to $120.27 a barrel after dropping 2.7 percent yesterday, the most since Dec. 14.
