TORONTO - The Toronto stock exchange was slightly higher amid rising commodity prices.
Traders also took in a major acquisition in Canada's media sector that will combine two of the country's largest television and radio businesses.
Canada's biggest telecommunications company, BCE Inc. (TSX:BCE), is buying Astral Media Inc. (TSX:ACM.A) for $3.38 billion.
The S&P/TSX composite index gained 21.11 points to 12,476.93.
The Canadian dollar was up 0.14 of a cent to 100.93 cents US.
U.S. markets were also higher as the Dow Jones industrials gained 30.04 points to 13,282.8, the Nasdaq composite index rose 2.93 points to 3,059.3 and the S&P 500 index was ahead 2.67 points to 1,405.27.
Oil prices also advanced with the April crude contract in New York ahead 64 cents to US$105.75 a barrel.
