NEW YORK (MarketWatch) — U.S. financial stocks fell on Monday morning as bank stocks weakened after taking their cue from overseas markets.
Northern Trust Corp. NTRS +0.21% , SunTrust Banks Inc. STI +0.49% and Morgan Stanley MS +0.85% led decliners with each falling more than 1%.
In the broader market, the Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF XLF +0.51% , which tracks the financials n the S&P 500 SPX +0.06% , shed 0.2%.
Among the stocks in the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA -0.08% , Bank of America Corp. BAC +1.22% , J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. JPM +0.18% , American Express Co. AXP +0.25% and Travelers Cos. Inc. TRV +0.25% all fell.
