MW: Canadian stocks fall amid China concerns

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Canadian stocks fell in early trading on Tuesday amid concerns for China's growth after a senior executive at Australian miner BHP Billiton said China's demand for iron ore was flattening out. The S&P/TSX Composite Index ISPTX +0.10% lost 78.14 points to 12,401.56, led by losses in the energy and material sectors. Shares of Viterra Inc. CA:VT -0.38% dipped 0.5% after Glencore International Plc, the largest publicly traded commodity supplier, backed by partners Richardson International and Agrium Inc. CA:AGU +1.66% , announced Tuesday that it agreed to acquire Canada's largest grain trader at C$16.25 per share in cash, valuing Viterra at C$6.1 billion.
