WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- U.S. house prices on a seasonally adjusted basis were flat in January, and the prior month's gain was revised to just 0.1% growth from a previously reported 0.7% gain, the Federal Housing Finance Agency reported Thursday. The FHFA monthly index is calculated using purchase prices of houses backing mortgages that have been sold to or guaranteed by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac. Compared to Jan. 2011, prices fell 0.8%.
