By Sara Sjolin
LONDON (MarketWatch) -- European stock markets erased earlier gains in a choppy market Tuesday and drifted lower, as losses for banks weighed on sentiment. Leading losses among indexes, Spain's IBEX 35 index XX:IBEX -1.40% lost 0.8% to 7,975.40, led by banks. Data released earlier showed the jobless level rose again in March. The French CAC 40 index FR:PX1 -0.59% fell 0.3% to 3,454.37, while the U.K. FTSE 100 index UK:UKX -0.20% traded 0.1% lower at 5,867.69.
