A LOCALLY based sailor will hope for success at any Price when she competes at the London Olympics from late July.
Olivia Price, a member of both Middle Harbour Yacht Club and Middle Harbour 16ft Skiff Club, is hoping to celebrate her 20th birthday in the ultimate style, with Olympic gold.
Price will turn 20 during the Games and is set to compete in the women’s match racing discipline event off Weymouth on England’s south coast from July 28. She will skipper an Elliot, a 6m boat, with Nina Curtis and Lucinda Whitty her fellow crew members.
Price spoke to the Daily about her excitement before flying out for London with her team last weekend.
“This is something that’s been a goal of mine for the past four years,” she said.
“To have it come true is just amazing. I can’t explain how excited I am.”
She began sailing as an eight-year-old after a cousin asked her to give it a try and the sport soon developed into a passion.
She believes her team has a realistic chance of a medal.
“We’re expecting to medal at least. We’ve been working really hard and our ultimate goal is to win the gold medal,” she said.
