MW: Canada stocks fall after two-day winning streak

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Canadian stocks fell 20 points Thursday to 11,476, snapping a two-day winning streak by Toronto's S&P/TSX Composite Index CA:$ISPTX +0.02% . The information technology sector XX:TTTK -1.97% led decliners on a 1.8% slide, followed by the consumer staples sector XX:TTCS -0.72% which fell 0.7%. After making headway earlier this week, gold stocks lost momentum and slipped into negative territory. Among those hit hardest were Royal Gold Inc. CA:RGL -0.88% , falling 2.4%, and New Gold Inc. CA:NGD -0.86% , down 2%. Also making notable moves were Research in Motion CA:RIM -5.27% , dropping 5%, and Class B shares of Transat CA:TRZ.B -6.19% , down 5.7%. Canada's loonie USDCAD -0.52% rose 0.4% against its U.S. counterpart, with one U.S. dollar purchasing C$1.0244, down from C$1.0285 Wednesday.
