AJC: Dollar mixed after weak US jobs data

NEW YORK — The dollar is trading lower against most major currencies, except for the euro, after the U.S. said the number of people seeking unemployment benefits rose last week.

Traders sold the euro after Spain had to pay considerably higher interest rates to sell its bonds, a sign that investors are worried about the country's finances.

The euro fell to $1.2258 Thursday from $1.2264 late Wednesday.

The Labor Department said applications for unemployment benefits rose by 34,000 to 386,000, the biggest jump since April 2011.

The British pound rose to $1.5693 from $1.5643.

The dollar fell to 78.59 Japanese yen from 78.80 yen.
