WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- U.S. construction spending edged up a seasonally adjusted 0.4% to an annual rate of $842.1 billion in June, the Commerce Department said Wednesday. The gain matched expectations in a MarketWatch-compiled economist poll, but May's gain was revised higher to a strong 1.6% reading from an initially reported 0.9% advance. In June, residential construction climbed 1.3% while nonresidential construction was flat. Compared to June 2011, spending is up 7%.
