EG: US carbon emissions lowest since 1992

US carbon emissions are the lowest in 20 years, a new report claims.
The Energy Information Administration’s (EIA) report showed a total of 1,340million metric tons of carbon were released between January and March, down nearly 8% from the prior year and the lowest for the quarter since 1992.
Emissions from coal were down 18% to 387million metric tons, which was the lowest for any quarter since April-June in 1986. Natural gas emissions were reduced by 2.8% to around 391million metric tons.
The EIA said a mild winter and reduced demand for gas contributed to the emissions drop.
The US is the second largest carbon emitter after China and emissions peaked at 6,022 tons in 2007.
