MW:Dollar stays lower after U.S. jobs report

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- The dollar remained lower against other major currencies on Friday after the government reported that nonfarm payrolls rose by 163,000 in July, which was much higher than economists had expected. The dollar index DXY -0.44% , which tracks the performance of the dollar against a basket of currencies, traded at 82.977 compared to 82.980 before the jobs data. The index traded at 83.32 in North American trade late Thursday. The euro rose 0.4% to $1.2230 on Friday morning.
