WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage average remained at 3.55% in the week ending Sept. 13, Freddie Mac said Thursday in its weekly report. The rate was 4.09% a year earlier, according to Freddie, a buyer of residential mortgages. "Despite a lackluster August employment report, Treasury bond yields and mortgage rates were little changed this week with the financial markets speculating on further monetary stimulus from the Federal Reserve," said Frank Nothaft, chief economist. Meanwhile, the 15-year fixed-rate mortgage ticked down to 2.85% in the latest week from 2.86% in the prior week. The average rate on the 5-year Treasury-indexed hybrid adjustable-rate mortgage declined to 2.72% from 2.75%. The 1-year Treasury-indexed ARM remained at 2.61%.
