WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) - Outlays for U.S. construction projects fell for the second month in August, the Commerce Department reported Monday. Construction spending fell 0.6% in August, well below analysts' expectations of a 0.5% gain. The decline in July construction spending was revised up to a 0.4% decline from the previous estimate of a 0.9% drop. In August, spending on private construction fell 0.5% while spending on public projects fell 0.9%. One bright spot was a 0.9% gain in private homebuilding in the month.
