COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - Gasoline prices in Branch County and Southwest Michigan continue to decline and some political cynics think that the timing is too conveniently close to election day for boosting the re-election chances of President Obama.
Not so says Michigan Congressman Fred Upton, the House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman. He believes that more traditional reasons, like supply and demand, are behind the fall of crude oil futures that has precipitated this latest drop at the pump.
The Republican from St. Joseph also believes that the resumption of service with the Keystone pipeline from Canadahas contributed to this situation. Oil industry analysts believe that, barring any unforeseen circumstances, gas prices will continue to tumble through early next month, at least.
