Tracking a firm global trend, copper prices traded higher by 0.16 per cent to Rs 440.15 per kg in futures trade today as speculators created fresh positions.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in February traded higher by 70 paise, or 0.16 per cent, to Rs 440.15 per kg in business turnover of 12,233 lots.
Likewise, the metal for delivery in the November contract edged up by 30 paise, or 0.07 per cent, to Rs 433.65 per kg in 13,065 lots.
Market analysts said fresh buying by speculators in tandem with a firm global trend amid optimism that further signs of economic recovery from China to the US will boost demand for the base metals.
Meanwhile, copper for delivery in three months climbed 0.3 per cent to 7,923.50 dollar a metric tonne on the London Metal Exchange.
