NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- U.S. stocks opened lower Monday, with the S&P 500 index SPX -0.52% retreating from a five-year high, as Wall Street looked to the next day's start to the fourth-quarter earnings season. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA -0.52% fell 64.78 points, or 0.5%, to 13,370.43. The S&P 500 shed 7.05 points, or 0.5%, to 1,459.42. The Nasdaq Composite COMP -0.50% declined 15.41 points, or 0.5%, to 3,086.24. |
