MW:Treasurys gain; 10-year yield falls below 1.8%

By Saumya Vaishampayan
NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Treasurys extended gains on Thursday, pushing yields on the 10-year note below 1.8%, after weekly jobless claims rose to a four-month high. Jobless claims for the week ended March 30 jumped to 385,000, though the increase was likely boosted by recent holidays. Elsewhere, the Bank of Japan sharply raised its asset buying. Yields on the benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury 10_YEAR -1.43% note fell 4 basis points to 1.77%. Those yields, which move inversely to prices, were at 1.79% before the release. One basis point is one one-hundredth of a percentage point.
