The ringgit closed slightly lower against the US dollar today on weak demand due to lack of direction, dealers said.
At 5pm, the local currency was quoted at 3.0580/0600 against the greenback, compared with 3.0565/0585 at close on Friday.
The dealer said the ringgit would likely gain strength gradually after the uncertainties cleared out, underpinned by the sustained large current account surplus in the balance of payments.
Meanwhile, the local note traded mixed against other major currencies.
The ringgit rose against the Singapore dollar to 2.4633/4652 from
2.4689/4713, and was sharply higher against the Japanese yen at 3.0908/0940 from 3.1746/1783 on Friday.
It weakened against the euro to 3.9785/9814 from last week's 3.9502/9534 and depreciated against the British pound to 4.6833/6873 from 4.6526/6569 previously.-- Bernama
