The rupee declined to 54.15 against the dollar on mild dollar buying by importers and banks.
The Indian unit had closed at 53.92 per dollar on Friday.
The domestic unit opened strong at 53.79 at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market today on fresh selling of the US currency by exporters amid sustained foreign capital inflows.
Strengthening of the euro against the dollar overseas and a higher opening in the domestic equity market also supported the rupee.
At 2.55 pm, the rupee was trading weak at 54.10 to the dollar.
The BSE-benchmark index Sensex was trading up 91 points (0.47 per cent) at 19,663.
