The rupee was trading strong by 39 paise at 60.33 against the dollar in the afternoon session on Thursday on fresh selling of the American currency by banks and exporters.
Also, weakening of the US dollar against other currencies and fresh foreign fund inflows into the domestic equity market boosted the rupee sentiment.
The domestic unit strengthened by 32 paise to 60.40 against the dollar in the opening trade on Thursday against the previous close of 60.72.
Data showing the US GDP grew 1.8 per cent against 2.4 per cent during the same period a year ago has raised investors’ hopes that the Fed may remain cautious in scaling back its $85-billion monthly bond-buying programme.
The interbank call money rates opened remained flat at 7.3 per cent from their previous close.
The 8.15 per cent government security (G-Sec), which matures in 2022, opened lower at 102.76. Yields hardened to 7.7 per cent.
