MW: Dollar jumps versus euro, yen on strong payrolls

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- The dollar extended gains versus major rivals on Friday after data showed U.S. nonfarm payrolls rose by a stronger-than-expected 195,000 in June. The euro EURUSD -0.6463% traded at $1.2825, a loss of 0.6%, after hitting an intraday low at $1.2813 in the wake of the data, according to FactSet, its lowest level versus the dollar since late May. The dollar USDJPY +0.8285% fetched 101.04 yen, up 0.8% on the day and jumping from around 100.11 yen just ahead of the data. Economists surveyed by MarketWatch had forecast nonfarm payrolls to rise by 155,000. The unemployment rate was unchanged at 7.6%.
