RTTN:Dollar Ticks Up After US Durable Goods Orders, Jobless Claims Data
The U.S. durable goods orders rose 4.2 percent month-over-month in June, well-above expectations for a growth of 1.5 percent.
The U.S. weekly jobless claims increased to 343,000 in the weekended July 20 from previous week's revised figure of 336,000. Economists expected claims to increase to 341,000 in the week following 334,000 claims originally reported in the previous week.
The US dollar drifted higher against its major rivals after the data. As of 8:32 am ET, the greenback was trading at 1.5284 against the pound, 99.85 against the yen, 0.9366 against the Swiss franc and 1.3203 against the euro.
