IBT:Ringgit closes lower against US dollar

The ringgit closed lower against the US dollar for the third consecutive day today, in tandem with losses in most regional currencies, said dealers.

At 5pm, the ringgit was quoted at 3.2140/2170 to the greenback from 3.2045/2075 on Thursday.

Demand for the US dollar strengthened in the global market amid positive US data, reinforcing the notion of on early stimulus tapering exercise.

Meanwhile, the ringgit traded lower against other major currencies.

The local unit depreciated against the Singapore dollar to 2.5691/5734 from 2.5657/5685 yesterday.

It was lower against the yen at 3.1815/1848 from 3.1810/1852 previously.

The ringgit was also sharply lower against the euro at 4.3367/3420 from 4.3024/3070 on Thursday.

It fell against the British pound to 5.2076/2138 from 5.1570/1631.-- Bernama
