IBT:Ringgit closes lower against US dollar

The ringgit closed lower against the US dollar for the third consecutive day as demand for the local currency remained subdued, dealers said.

At 5pm, the ringgit was quoted at 3.2250/2290 against the dollar from 3.2230/2260 on Wednesday.

A dealer said investors were confident that the US job data, due later this week, would boost sentiment for the greenback.

Meanwhile in Europe, the focus is on today's European Central Bank and Bank of England meetings.

The Bank of Canada yesterday held interest rates steady and was slightly more dovish in its outlook.

The local unit slipped against the yen to 3.1590/1641 from 3.1405/1446 yesterday and fell against the Singapore dollar to 2.5685/5737 from 2.5681/5713 on Wednesday.

It weakened against the British pound to 5.2838/2917 from 5.2774/2826 yesterday and eased against the euro to 4.3873/3937 from 4.3768/3819 on Wednesday.-- Bernama
