LM:Rupee closes 8 paise weaker at 62.66 per dollar
Mumbai: The rupee gave up its gains on a quiet trading day on Friday as dealers awaited fresh global and local cues.
The Indian currency closed at 62.6575 per dollar, down 0.13%, from the previous close of 62.575. The unit had opened marginally higher at 62.405 per dollar earlier on Friday, tracking the gains in the Asian currencies and touched a high and a low of 62.355 and 62.76, respectively in the intra-day trading.
Trade was thin even in the equity markets. India’s benchmark equity index, Sensex on BSE, closed trading at 20513.85 points, up 0.08%, from previous close.
The yield on India’s 10-year benchmark bond ended at 8.794% as compared with its previous close of 8.823%. It opened at 8.823% and touched a high and a low of 8.876% and 8.794%, respectively.
The dollar index, which measures the US currency’s strength against major currencies, was trading at 81.171, up 0.11% from the previous close of 81.085.
