WSJ: Petrobras January Crude Oil Output Drops on Platform Shutdowns

By Rogerio Jelmayer

SAO PAULO--Brazilian state-run energy giant Petroleo Brasileiro SA (PBR), or Petrobras, reported a decrease in its oil production in January as shutdowns at several offshore platforms crimped production.

Domestic crude-oil output slipped 2.4% to 1.92 million barrels per day from 1.96 million barrels a day in December, Petrobras said in a statement on Thursday.

The drop in production was due to maintenance at one platform in the Marlin field, as a result of a fire and a planned maintenance at a floating production, storage and offloading unit in Roncador field.

Petrobras said its platform at Marlim field is unlikely to restart its operation until the end of the first quarter.

Total crude oil and natural gas production was 2.31 million barrels of oil equivalent, or BOE, in January, down from 2.36 million BOE in December, Petrobras said.
