KUALA LUMPUR, April 17 — The ringgit closed higher against the US dollar today on continuous buying support, said a dealer.
At 5pm, the ringgit was quoted at 3.2370/2390 against the greenback, up from its close yesterday of 3.2410/2430.
The dealer said the US Federal Reserve chairperson, Janet Yellen, believed that monetary policy needed to remain accommodative in the US, reiterating the sluggish labour market and low inflation. “The greenback came under pressure after the chairperson made her remarks, offsetting the recent positive data that showed the US economy was regaining momentum,” she said.
The ringgit fell against the Singapore dollar to 2.5911/5929 from 2.5889/5915 yesterday. It rose against the euro to 4.4803/4841 from 4.4878/4912.
It declined against the British pound to 5.4482/4529 from 5.4475/4521, and eased against the yen to 3.1726/1752 from 3.1663/1695. — Bernama
