TS:Ringgit closes higher against US dollar

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit closed higher against the US dollar today on continuous buying interest following Malaysia's positive external trade figures for March released today.

At 5pm, the local currency was quoted at 3.2490/3520 from Tuesday's 3.2520/2550.

A dealer said the strengthening of the ringgit today was also boosted by the demand from foreign funds.

Malaysia's total trade in March rose by 4.6% to RM120.46 billion from the same month last year boosted by higher exports versus imports.

Meanwhile, the ringgit was traded mixed against a basket of major currencies. The local note was slightly higher against the Singapore dollar to 2.6015/6045 from 2.6039/6065 on Tuesday and rose against the euro to 4.5203/5255 from 4.5284/5332 previously.

Against the yen, the ringgit was traded lower to 3.1985/1020 from 3.1882/1924 while the domestic currency decreased against the British pound to 5.5136/5196 from 5.5073/5130. – Bernama
