MW: Economic growth accelerates in May, national activity index shows

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- Economic activity accelerated in May, according to the Chicago Fed national activity index released Monday. The index rose to 0.21 in May from negative 0.15 in April, where a reading of zero is equal to trend growth. The index is a weighted average of 85 indicators of national economic activity. The three-month average slowed to 0.18 in May from 0.31 in April.
