PORTSMOUTH -- A fill-up in Hampton Roads is getting more expensive.
According to AAA Travel, gas prices have continued to rise since June 15.
The cost of a gallon of regular unleaded gas in Hampton Roads is 17 cents higher than last year and 34 cents higher than 2012.
At the Wawa's on Victory Boulevard in Portsmouth, Ray Wilson has noticed the change.
"Just last week it was $3.40, now it's like $3.50. It keeps going up, it seems like everyday it's like a penny or half-a-penny," said Wilson.
In recent years, gas prices have declined in the weeks leading up to Independence Day, but AAA says that crude oil costs have gone up as a result of the violence in Iraq.
Despite the rise in prices, AAA predicts that more than a million Virginians will travel 50 miles or more during the holiday weekend.
