MW: EDF seeks 2.5% rise in electricity retail prices
French state-controlled power utility Electricite de France SA (EDF.FR) will ask the government to authorize a 2.5% increase in regulated electricity retail prices in 2015, Les Echos newspaper said Monday, citing unidentified sources.
The government is likely to approve the price increase, the newspaper said.
French energy minister Segolene Royal had opposed the 5% increase the company planned to impose on its customers last year and eventually agreed to let the company raise prices by 2.5%.
As its costs regularly increase as a result of the development of renewable energy and additional investments imposed to assure the safety of its fleet of nuclear reactors, EDF has imposed increasingly unpopular price hikes over the past few years.
