BLBG: U.S. Index Futures Little Changed as Morgan Stanley Profit Beats

U.S. stock-index futures were little changed as Morgan Stanley reported earnings, and investors awaited results from other companies including Halliburton Co.
Morgan Stanley rose 3.9 percent after profit beat analysts’ estimates as a jump in trading and brokerage fees led to the biggest revenue increase among the six largest U.S. banks.
Standard & Poor’s 500 Index E-mini contracts expiring in September added 0.1 percent to 2,120.75 at 7:29 a.m. in New York. Futures on the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 22 points, or 0.1 percent, to 18,019, while contracts on the Nasdaq 100 advanced 0.2 percent to 4,658.
“Earnings are going quite well so far” said Christian Zogg, a fund manager who helps oversee about $10 billion at LLB Asset Management in Vaduz, Liechtenstein. “I think the market will hold up quite well, but I do not expect a big move. Tech stocks have seen a good move; they are probably taking a break.”
While gains in Google Inc. and Facebook Inc. pushed the Nasdaq Composite Index to an all-time high for a second day on Friday, a decline in energy shares damped gains in the S&P 500.
International Business Machines Corp. is also among six S&P 500 companies posting results today. Analysts have moderated projections for a drop in S&P 500 members’ second-quarter earnings to a 5.3 percent decline from 6.4 percent on July 10.
Investors will also watch economic reports for clues on when the Federal Reserve will move on rates, with housing and jobless-claims data due later this week.
Zillow Group Inc. declined 1.2 percent after Barclays Plc cut its rating on the real estate listings website to underweight, similar to sell. Newmont Mining Corp. slid 2.9 percent after gold led a slump in commodities prices.
