TMS: Canadian dollar retreats ahead of TSX opening
TORONTO — The Canadian dollar was down nearly one-fifth of a U.S. cent early Wednesday, before North American stock markets opened.
The loonie was down 0.17 of a U.S. cent, dropping to 75.56 cents US.
The Dow Jones industrial futures were up 175.0 points at 16,627.0, the S&P 500 futures advanced 18.8 points to 1,984.5 and the Nasdaq futures gained 48.3 points to 4,346.8.
On the commodity markets, the December gold contract fell $1.60 to US$1,119.40 an ounce, the October crude contract was down 69 cents at US$45.25 a barrel and the October contract for natural gas was down three cents at US$2.68.
On Tuesday, the S&P/TSX index in Toronto rose 152.36 points to close at 13,630.67, with the metals and mining sector by far the biggest gainer.
