The ringgit closed lower against the US dollar today in line with most emerging currencies on bearish sentiment amid lingering concerns of a global economic slowdown.
At 5 pm, the ringgit was quoted at 4.3990/4020 against the dollar from 4.3935/3975 yesterday.
A dealer said persistent worries over slowing global growth and softening Chinese economy had weighed on share markets worldwide and dampened risk sentiment in the past few weeks.
Furthermore, he said the lingering possibility of a US Federal Reserve rate hike later this year also weighed on Asian currencies.
The ringgit was traded mostly higher against its major peers.
It strengthened against the Singapore dollar to 3.0803/0828 from 3.0866/0914 yesterday but was traded lower against the yen at 3.6634/6665 from 3.6539/6576.
The local note appreciated against the euro to 4.9102/9140 from 4.9321/9384 yesterday, and rose against the pound sterling to 6.6636/6704 from 6.6676/6754. – Bernama, October 1, 2015.
