MW: U.S. leading economic index rises 0.3% in June
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — The leading economic index for the U.S. rose 0.3% in June after declining in the prior month.
“While the LEI continues to point to moderating economic growth in the U.S. through the end of 2016, the expansion still appears resilient enough to weather volatility in financial markets and a moderating outlook in labor markets,” said Ataman Ozyildirim, director of business cycles and growth research at The Conference Board, producer of the report.
A measure of current conditions increased 0.3%. A “ lagging” index fell 0.1%.
The LEI is a weighted gauge of 10 indicators designed to signal business-cycle peaks and valleys.
